![]() Dying is simply just a part of bossing and exploring in this game, and even the best players, with maxed stats and BIS will die occasionally. Compared to the other Ironman modes, your progress per level/item will be less useful for you, and your experiences will often be limited by your willingness to risk your status.Īll this extra time and effort goes into a HCIM, and yet personally, I know with 99% confidence, that once I start doing bosses like Zulrah and more dangerous end-game content, I will die to some noob error around the first 10KC. Sure, you might risk a new account for easy levels, but once it has 50+ hours? It throws exploration and the concept of trial and error out the window. You'll avoid the wilderness like a plague and any mini-game with an even remote chance of death. You're going to read guides, get 2nd opinions, safe spot every boss, and over-prepare for every challenge. It takes a game that is tedious at the best of times, and encourages you to avoid some of the most interesting parts until you are "ready", afterall, what madman risks a 200+ hr investment just to save another 20hr grind? UIM adds some severe limitations and grinds, but it doesn't exactly discourage you from risk or trying new things the way a HCIM might do, particularly as an inexperienced OSRS player.Īlso, If you're doing a new quest, boss, mini-game or exploring as a HCIM, there's probably no way you're going to risk doing it yourself. You start over-grinding for quests and bosses, skilling far beyond necessary for better items, avoiding dangerous quests and places despite the rewards that might double or even triple your efficiency. Since you don't want to risk dying, you don't use the more rewarding/faster methods. It just made sense to do it on paper.īut I think I've found the real reason to avoid a HCIM, and that's simply because, in many ways, it is an inferior experience to a regular Ironman or UIM. But returning to OSRS after many years away, I chose a Hardcore Ironman with the attitude: "Why the hell wouldn't I?", there was no difference on the surface, beyond the extra prestige and sense that there was an extra goal/more valuable journey. Personally, I had never done "late-game content" for OSRS before. Sorry for the longer post, I'm just making this post to share my experience with newer players who are considering doing a HCIM, and like me, saw no initial downsides to choosing HCIM over regular Ironman modes. ![]() Other forms of self-promotion may be removed at moderator discretion.
